When Jesus is confronted by the Pharisees about healing a man with a withered hand, He uses an example of a sheep who has fallen into a pit on the Sabbath. "Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

The Pharisees had misplaced the value of God and others and elevated their Sabbath regulations above this.
