He points out Matthew's narrative apologetic style in using Old Testament prophecies to prove that this Jesus is the promised Messianic provision sent from God to redeem His people. In this narrative we see God's faithfulness, man's sinfulness, and Christ's willingness to be a reproach for the sin's of God's people.
